Travel Broadens the Mind - and Helps Learn Languages
It’s quite surprising how much of a help traveling is when it comes to learning languages. The more you visit countries other than your own, the more you realize that languages are an integral part of people’s culture, beliefs, values and traditions. And the more you come to realize that you can only truly understand a person’s culture, beliefs, values and traditions if you understand at least a little of their language.
And as this realization begins to sink in, you’ll notice how much more motivated you become to learn a foreign language. So, if you really want to get involved in learning a foreign language, make as many trips abroad as possible - obviously it’s more useful to visit a country whose language you’re studying, but visiting any country will help you to increase your motivation and thus your proficiency. Use Your Computer to Learn a New Language
If you’re a computer-person, you’re in luck! There are a lot of multimedia programs that have been made for use on computers. Most of them combine flashcard-type visual lessons or video with the ability to practice speaking the language using your microphone. The great advantage of these programs is that they allow you to progress at your own pace - and in the comfort of your own home. One of the most common causes for people to give up learning a language is that they underestimated the amount of time they would need to master it.
